The Steampunk Playground

Waitaki District

Friendly Bay a.k.a. the Steampunk Playground

Out of nowhere, Oamaru turned into the steampunk capital of New Zealand. One day it was just Otago's 2nd largest town, then boom, the next morning Steampunk capital. And then you know what, well everything must turn steampunky. And why not a playground!

Directions

Well how do we get here you ask? Go to Oamaru, then go to the beach. Then you will be here.

And why should I go here?

This spectacular playground is a child's favorite. With a massive penny farthing swing-set to a boat out of water, to an old train crane sitting on some old tracks. There is also a massive fast slide that leaves you breathless and a flying fox. How about even an elephant pole slide or a merry-go-round. Like the ones they outlawed in the 90's. What ever your kids favorite, this playground has it, and with a very unique twist.

There is also a little sandy beach, and a very long pier you can walk along. The train steams by on the occasional day, their is a craft brewery and a café. And I even hear they might install a floating 5-star hotel. (what craziness)

And just the other day they opened up a new bike park to get the little ones out practicing their skills and road rules. Good heavens this place is great.
