Saint Bathans

Known for its early gold mining days and formerly named Dunstan Creek this wonderfully picturesque town lies in the Maniototo Ward of Central Otago. Saint Bathans is also home to the most hunted building in New Zealand, The Vulcan Hotel! Made from mud bricks circa 1882 this is a must see while visiting the area.


Directions

Not much needed to get here, just jump in a car, punch in St Bathans in your GPS and drive. But if your going old school, make it a lunch spot on your way over the pig route from the coast while heading to those ever so touristy towns further inland.

Saint Bathans formerly Dunstan Creek

This town no matter how many times I visit I capture unique pictures from all the times before. Any season, any time of day or night, this place will astound. From mountain bike racing into gale force winds to climbing the scree slopes that plummet into Blue lake. Any adventure here is worth two from anywhere.

These shots were taken during Autumn when the leaves were a golden yellow and the wind had no sail. The lake was as still as a midwinter nights sky. Reflection upon reflections of beauty.
